Fabulous Friday - Amanda & Billy

Friday, February 6, 2015 4:26:32 PM America/Los_Angeles

Happy Fabulous Friday y'all! I have been waiting to show off Amanda's story and her dress for awhile now. We were so excited when we found out she wanted a blue Beverlywood! We just love how beautiful it turned out, but not as beautiful as Amanda. She's a gem both inside and out.

Couple's Name - Billy and Amanda

Wedding Date & Location - Friday, November 21, 2014;  Historic Houston Heights Fire Station, Houston, Texas

Theme/Color/Style - Our theme was "Southern Vintage";  Colors were primarily navy and fuchsia, but flowers and bridal party dresses featured lots of gorgeous jewel tones.

Dress - The Beverlywood, custom-made in light blue taffeta

Favorite Moments from the Wedding - There were so many moments that I hold especially dear, but none more than when my groom saw me for the first time, walking down the aisle toward him.  We didn't do a first look, and I am so glad we didn't.  It was absolutely magical when the doors opened, and we locked eyes from opposite ends of the room.  I've never felt more loved than right then, seeing him in such anticipation and awe.  Another favorite moment would have to be dancing at the reception - my dress was so fun to twirl in!

Advice for future Dolly Couture brides - Decide on one element you must have for your dress and keep looking until you find it.  When I first started dress shopping, I had an unclear idea of what I wanted to look like as a bride.  The one thing I was sure about was that I wanted to marry in light blue.  (Backstory:  my mama married my daddy in a light blue pencil skirt suit in 1959.  "Marry in blue, wish your love true", she always said.).  And even though I wasn't interested in long white dresses, I tried on several to appease my sisters.  While I agreed they were perfectly pretty dresses, they just "weren't me".  As the search continued, most bridal shops would steer me to the bridesmaids dress section when I insisted on a blue dress.  I bought - and quickly returned - about a half dozen dresses.  These bridesmaids dresses just weren't special enough.  And then, I happened upon an ad for Dolly Couture in one of many wedding magazines I was reading.  The dresses really spoke to me (actually, it was more like singing).  They were beautiful, timeless, and classy - like Elvis singing "Love Me Tender".  But, do they come in light blue?  Sure they do!  From this point forward, the team at Dolly Couture made the process so painlessly simple for me.  I made one visit to an in-home boutique (Molly in San Antonio is terrific!) to make sure of my design choice, get measured, and see the assortment of light blue fabric samples, and soon after, my wedding dress was ordered.  It arrived quicker than expected, and while it did need some tailoring, the fittings and alterations were simple and inexpensive to fit the dress perfectly.  In the end, I have never felt more beautiful.  And, I received the sweetest compliment:  "I was wondering what kind of dress you'd pick, and when you came down the aisle, I said 'That's it.  That looks just like Amanda.'"

Dolly Couture Spotlight - Molly

Friday, October 31, 2014 11:48:49 AM America/Los_Angeles

This week we thought we would mix it up a bit.  I'm sure you've all wondered what us gals behind the short wedding dress scene are like.

We currently have 4 in home mini boutiques with a new location to be announced shortly! Currently our in home mini boutiques are in Seattle, Chicago, Nashville and San Antonio.  We have a great selection of short vintage inspired wedding dresses for you to try.

Today's spotlight is Molly.  She runs the San Antonio bridal showroom via her adorable home.  We are so glad we have a presesence in the San Antonio bridal market.

Check out Molly!

What made you choose to be a Dolly Couture bride?
In 2007, I'd been searching for a "short, poofy" dress for over a year.  It wasn't until a week after I got engaged in 2008 that I learned of Dolly Couture.  The Manhattan was EVERYTHING I wanted and more.  The price was affordable and just right, the dress was perfection (short and cute), and the service was unmatched.  Being from Texas, I'll admit it was a bit scary ordering a dress I'd never tried on, but I was sure that with some tailoring, it would be as amazing as I dreamed it would be...and guess what, it was!

What made you want to have an in home showroom?
I knew from experience how weird it is to order a dress, sight (or fit!) unseen.  I wanted to be able to share my experience with other Dolly brides and help them feel comfortable with ordering. I thought it was very creative of Dolly to start these in-home showrooms to help ease some of that uncertainty by giving out-of-footprint brides the opportunity to try on the DC silhouette in person.

What's your favorite thing about being an in home rep?
My favorite thing is meeting brides who are just as enthusiastic about Dolly dresses as I was!  Plus, I can do it from home! (And it motivates me to keep my house clean!)

Is there anything you would like people to know about you, your family or your showroom.
I recently became a stay-at-home mom after having worked since I was 15.  It's a weird transition, but I love having this Dolly gig to keep me feeling like a monetary contributor to our family.  I worked in the finance and investments industry for over 8 years, and will likely return to the industry when my children get older.  For now, I want to be "mostly mommy."

As for my showroom, occasionally, I will take appointments when my husband is working, which leaves me still in charge of my three kids, 2 of which are 3-month old twins!  I have a toddler daughter, who's easily distracted with the iPad, when necessary, and twin boys. Fun fact: The dressing room is their nursery!  Anyway, I've found ways to manage the madness of my kids while still making the bride's experience fun and informative. Thankfully, my wonderful husband makes himself available to be daddy day-care whenever I need him.

Fabulous Friday - Inga & Knut

Friday, September 5, 2014 3:09:21 PM America/Los_Angeles

It's Fabulous Friday, and we have a pretty fabulous bride today! Inga is one of our amazing international brides who trust us from afar to make their perfect wedding gown. She never even tried the dress on, but we worked together to create her beautiful Moon River. I loved everything about their wedding - the arrival (come on?!), the music, the attire, the location, the pops of red, her hair....everything. I know you all will too! Enjoy!

Couple's Name: Inga & Knut

Wedding Date & Location: "We were wed on July 26th 2014, in the English garden at Vågsberget Handelsstad in the western part of Norway."

Theme/Color/Style:"We didn't have a theme, but we did have red polka dots as a detail that was present in everything from my shoes to the table decorations."

Dress: "I wore a Moon River dress."

Favorite moment(s) from the wedding: "There were so many favourite moments, it's hard to pick just one. Maybe when my dear friends performed "Falling in love with you again" by Imelda May as part of the wedding ceremony. I felt every word."

What made you choose Dolly Couture: "I fell in love with my dress as soon as I saw the first picture of it, browzing for a short 50's wedding dress. I wrote an email to Dolly Couture, and my impression was that these are people who know what they are doing. I also felt that I was being well taken care of. That is why I chose Dolly Couture."

Advice for future Dolly Couture brides: "If I could give any advice to future Dolly brides, it would be to give away as much of the responsabilties as you can, so that you will be able to enjoy your day without any stress. I did, and my day was magical, from the very first minute. Also, remember to hold your wedding bouquet down! I have so many pictures of me where I am holding my lovely red dahlias too high."
