Fabulous Friday - Amanda & Billy

Friday, February 6, 2015 4:26:32 PM America/Los_Angeles

Happy Fabulous Friday y'all! I have been waiting to show off Amanda's story and her dress for awhile now. We were so excited when we found out she wanted a blue Beverlywood! We just love how beautiful it turned out, but not as beautiful as Amanda. She's a gem both inside and out.

Couple's Name - Billy and Amanda

Wedding Date & Location - Friday, November 21, 2014;  Historic Houston Heights Fire Station, Houston, Texas

Theme/Color/Style - Our theme was "Southern Vintage";  Colors were primarily navy and fuchsia, but flowers and bridal party dresses featured lots of gorgeous jewel tones.

Dress - The Beverlywood, custom-made in light blue taffeta

Favorite Moments from the Wedding - There were so many moments that I hold especially dear, but none more than when my groom saw me for the first time, walking down the aisle toward him.  We didn't do a first look, and I am so glad we didn't.  It was absolutely magical when the doors opened, and we locked eyes from opposite ends of the room.  I've never felt more loved than right then, seeing him in such anticipation and awe.  Another favorite moment would have to be dancing at the reception - my dress was so fun to twirl in!

Advice for future Dolly Couture brides - Decide on one element you must have for your dress and keep looking until you find it.  When I first started dress shopping, I had an unclear idea of what I wanted to look like as a bride.  The one thing I was sure about was that I wanted to marry in light blue.  (Backstory:  my mama married my daddy in a light blue pencil skirt suit in 1959.  "Marry in blue, wish your love true", she always said.).  And even though I wasn't interested in long white dresses, I tried on several to appease my sisters.  While I agreed they were perfectly pretty dresses, they just "weren't me".  As the search continued, most bridal shops would steer me to the bridesmaids dress section when I insisted on a blue dress.  I bought - and quickly returned - about a half dozen dresses.  These bridesmaids dresses just weren't special enough.  And then, I happened upon an ad for Dolly Couture in one of many wedding magazines I was reading.  The dresses really spoke to me (actually, it was more like singing).  They were beautiful, timeless, and classy - like Elvis singing "Love Me Tender".  But, do they come in light blue?  Sure they do!  From this point forward, the team at Dolly Couture made the process so painlessly simple for me.  I made one visit to an in-home boutique (Molly in San Antonio is terrific!) to make sure of my design choice, get measured, and see the assortment of light blue fabric samples, and soon after, my wedding dress was ordered.  It arrived quicker than expected, and while it did need some tailoring, the fittings and alterations were simple and inexpensive to fit the dress perfectly.  In the end, I have never felt more beautiful.  And, I received the sweetest compliment:  "I was wondering what kind of dress you'd pick, and when you came down the aisle, I said 'That's it.  That looks just like Amanda.'"

Fabulous Friday - Alycia & Stephen

Friday, August 9, 2013 1:47:03 PM America/Los_Angeles

We love a good outdoor summer wedding!

Couple: Alycia & Stephen

Wedding Date & Location: July 26th, 2013 at their 112 year old farmhouse (yes, built in 1901!) in Estacada, OR

Wedding Theme:

"We didn't really have a theme beyond wanting to have it outside, in the summer. We had our ceremony under an ancient walnut tree and dinner on the lawn. It was a lovely, perfect summer evening."

Dress: Alycia wore the Avila Bay dress in ivory lace, with the champagne thread and waist. She had it customized by bringing the lace off the shoulders a little and made into cap sleeves.

Favorite moment from the wedding:

"My favorite moment from the wedding was right after the ceremony. My new husband and I, along with our wedding party, popped a bottle of champagne, and I relaxed for the first time in a month! I also loved seeing our friends and relatives all getting to know each other and dancing together. I think one of the most fun things at any wedding is watching people from different walks of life, all coming together to celebrate."

What made you choose DC?

"I was engaged for maybe a day before I thought about what I was going to wear. :) I was looking up short weddings gowns online and just fell in love with the gowns at Dolly Couture. Luckily for me, we were living in New York at the time so I was able to make an appointment to try on gowns in the showroom. I tried on the Avila Bay gown and it was just perfect. I ordered it on the spot!"

Advice for future DC brides:

"Try not to sweat the small stuff. I just about went crazy trying to plan for every little detail, but in the end, you're going to forget something. Ask for help if you need it. Our friends and families were so wonderful about pitching in to help us get our home tip-top before the wedding. Also, have fun and enjoy each moment and each other. This is the one day that is all about the two of you, so make sure to steal a few minutes where you can focus on each other, amidst all the madness!"

Congratulations Alycia & Stephen! We love the story about the ring!

Fabulous Friday - Sarah & Aaron

Friday, August 9, 2013 1:47:03 PM America/Los_Angeles

Even Southern Belle's wear short wedding dresses! Let's meet Sarah & Aaron!

Couple: Sarah and Aaron

Wedding Date & Location: April 20th, 2012 in St. Francisville, LA

Wedding Theme:

"I guess the best way to describe it is 'Spring in Plantation Country'.  We wanted a laid back wedding in my parents' hometown with lots of green- the weather couldn't have been better for us!"

Dress: Sarah wore the Avila Bay in ivory with a lace skirt.

Favorite moment from the wedding:

"Seeing my husband for the first time in my dress. We did a 'first look' before the wedding so we could get straight to the reception with our friends and family after the ceremony. Our photographer did an amazing job of setting this moment up for us in front of The Myrtles Plantation. Those were some of the best moments for us. Another favorite moment was during the ceremony - I put Aaron's ring on the wrong hand, realized it and quickly changed hands. He turned to our friends and family and said, 'Sorry y'all, we haven't done this before!' It was perfect."

What made you choose DC?

"I knew I wanted a different dress that would be flattering and would fit my personality.  A short dress was something I was set on. When we were planning our wedding, we were living in NYC. I was very lucky to be able to go to the showroom there. My mom pointed out the Avila Bay because she loved the lace. I tried it on to humor her, thinking I wasn't a lace kind of girl. Turns out I was - Mom always knows what's best!"

Advice for future DC brides:

"Have the time of your life - If you are the kind of girl who chooses a Dolly dress, then I know you are a girl who likes to have fun! It's a day I relive with my husband often - the memories are so amazing because we made the day about us and focused on each other.  We got to dance like crazy people with all of our best friends and family in one place for several hours. When is that happening again?!"

Congrats Sarah & Aaron! We love the story about the ring!
