Fabulous Friday - Jennifer & Michael

Friday, August 1, 2014 12:33:59 PM America/Los_Angeles

Am I just an emotional mess lately? I swear I tear up at EVERY Fabulous Friday post. I'm not joking. When Michael's uncle surprised him with such a special momento....that started it for me and continued as I read.

I loved this sweet store and all the paper elements. And Jennifer's advice at the end is so magical. Jennifer is so beatiful, and you can see the love just radiating off her (and Michael).

Enjoy!

Couple's Names: Michael and Jennifer

Date and Location: July 6, 2014 in Bucks County, Pennsylvania

Theme/Color/Style: "Although we got married around the 4th of July, Michael did not like the idea of a red, white, and blue theme. Our style was vintage and the theme was centered around paper, appropriate since I am a magazine editor and Michael loves to write. I have always loved paper and paper crafting, and one of the first details I settled on was my gorgeous paper flower bouquet in some of my favorite shades of blue. Like a lot of my wedding decor, it came from Etsy. The paper flowers inspired many other details, including the paper flower and lantern centerpieces and the "Just Married" banner that hung over the sweetheart table."

Dress: "I wore the Port William, which I chose with my mom in the NYC showroom. Yvette was a lovely consultant, and even though I walked in thinking Avila Bay would be my dress, I couldn't get the Port William out of my mind on the way home. The pictures really don't do the dress justice! I had a seamstress modify the bodice to a slight sweetheart under the illusion lace. I got so many compliments on the dress, and a guest even told me I looked like Grace Kelly."

Favorite Moments: "We had such a magical day that it's hard to choose a favorite moment! My mom's text in the morning saying how happy she was for me was the first thing I saw and set the tone for a joyous day. Michael's uncle pulled us aside at the reception and presented me with the cigar he received from Michael's dad the day he was born--that was a surprise and very special! We didn't want a band or DJ at the reception, but Michael's brother, a musician, sang us a beautiful and meaningful song. The cupcakes we served in lieu of a traditional cake were the surprise hit of the day. There was practically a stampede to choose one after lunch!"

One other fun detail: "Instead of a book, our guests signed a metal print of a silly selfie we took in which I surprised Michael by biting his nose. After the cake cutting, we had smashed quite a bit of cake on each other, and someone yelled out that I should bite him, so we recreated the shot."

Advice: "My advice to other Dolly brides is that the only expectations you need to live up to are your own. No matter how traditional or nontraditional you decide to be, your love and the joy you radiate will make it a wedding. I was originally a little worried that having no bridal party and a lunch reception with no music would not feel "wedding" enough, but the day was absolutely perfect because it reflected us and how we wanted to celebrate. My other advice is to get fun shoes, because everyone will notice!"

Fabulous Friday - Nikki & Phil

Friday, June 21, 2013 11:21:37 AM America/Los_Angeles

It's once again Fabulous Friday here at Dolly Couture, and we have an all new bride to showcase!

It's time for Nikki & Phil! They are ADORBS!!!

Couple: Nikki & Phil

Wedding Date & Location: 9/30/2010 on the World Yacht, on the Hudson River, NY

Wedding Theme:

"The theme of our wedding reception back in Stone, Staffordshire U.K, was fifties style, with everyone dressing up in a fifties theme, and I decorated by myself with a candy buffet, juke box and lots of fifties balloons and decorations."

Dress: Nikki wore a custom gown. She chose a pink satin for the Luxor and did a large polka dot overlay with a pink satin sash to match. She also wore a bolero trimmed in the same polka dots as her dress.

Favorite moment from the wedding:

"My favourite part of the wedding was having my husband travel to the wedding in a blind fold so he couldn't see my Dolly dress, and being walked down the aisle by my dad. Also seeing Phil's face when he saw me for the first time, which was beautifully captured by the amazing New York photographer Lina Jang. That photo means a lot to me as it captures our emotions perfectly."

What made you choose DC?

"I picked Dolly Couture after searching through the Internet with a specific look that I had in mind, as I am a fan of vintage inspired fifties dresses, polka dots, and pettis, and was specifically after a short wedding dress, with none being sold locally. I had one previous disaster going to a local bridal store where I cried and walked out as none were to my style, and far to tall for my small frame. So I found Dolly Couture on the Internet and was very impressed at the wonderful helpful service I received from Dolly herself, and Nickie. They were very patient with me and designed my dress beautifully with the ideas on what I was after. They reassured me, and their patience was fantastic with all the questions and worries any new bride has. I was impressed with the sketching they sent me, and I can not fault the whole service I received. It made the whole wedding dress experience fantastic. I was over the moon when I received my dress; it was exactly how I imagined in my head. If ever there was a Dolly couture shop over in Britain I wouldn't hesitate to show my interest in being part of Dolly Couture! I'm trying to find another excuse to buy another Dolly dress!"

Advice for future DC brides:

"Put your faith in Dolly and her team! It will be just as wonderful as you imagine. She really does know how to work her magic!"

Fabulous Friday - Robyn & Nick

Friday, June 14, 2013 1:22:44 PM America/Los_Angeles

It's Fabulous Friday here at Dolly Couture and what better way to celebrate it to show off one of our very own fabulous Dolly Couture brides!

Pull up a chair and let's get to know Robyn and Nick!!

Couple: Robyn & Nick

Wedding Date: 5/27/2012

Wedding Colors: Colors were yellow & silver, flowers featured the Plumeria, just like Robyn's ring

Dress: Robyn wore a white satin Luxor with an organza overlay on the skirt and a grey sash.

Favorite moment from the wedding:

"It was truly the best day ever!  Two days before the wedding, my now-husband had a bachelor party catastrophe and broke his hand. This meant we had to miss our honeymoon for him to have surgery, and we would be wearing a cast during the wedding.  He and my dad wrapped the purple cast in silver ribbon so it would better match our colors.  Our Pastor included the signing of the marriage license as part of the wedding ceremony, and everyone had a good laugh when Nick struggled to hold the pen in his right hand (the broken one).  Our marriage license includes his very poorly written initials, rather than his signature."

What made you choose DC?

I have always wanted a short wedding dress, and would have had a Grease (the movie) themed wedding had I been able to pull it off.  Therefore, I have always imagined myself in a short, retro dress.  I'm an old soul and should have been born in a poodle skirt!  Dolly made my dreams come true with her collection of retro-inspired dresses."

Advice for future DC brides:

"Dolly and her team make anything possible, so ask your consultant what customizations are possible.  It will be worth it!"

Thank you so much to Robyn for sharing her story! She looked stunning and what a great venue!
