Fabulous Friday - Amanda & Billy

Friday, February 6, 2015 4:26:32 PM America/Los_Angeles

Happy Fabulous Friday y'all! I have been waiting to show off Amanda's story and her dress for awhile now. We were so excited when we found out she wanted a blue Beverlywood! We just love how beautiful it turned out, but not as beautiful as Amanda. She's a gem both inside and out.

Couple's Name - Billy and Amanda

Wedding Date & Location - Friday, November 21, 2014;  Historic Houston Heights Fire Station, Houston, Texas

Theme/Color/Style - Our theme was "Southern Vintage";  Colors were primarily navy and fuchsia, but flowers and bridal party dresses featured lots of gorgeous jewel tones.

Dress - The Beverlywood, custom-made in light blue taffeta

Favorite Moments from the Wedding - There were so many moments that I hold especially dear, but none more than when my groom saw me for the first time, walking down the aisle toward him.  We didn't do a first look, and I am so glad we didn't.  It was absolutely magical when the doors opened, and we locked eyes from opposite ends of the room.  I've never felt more loved than right then, seeing him in such anticipation and awe.  Another favorite moment would have to be dancing at the reception - my dress was so fun to twirl in!

Advice for future Dolly Couture brides - Decide on one element you must have for your dress and keep looking until you find it.  When I first started dress shopping, I had an unclear idea of what I wanted to look like as a bride.  The one thing I was sure about was that I wanted to marry in light blue.  (Backstory:  my mama married my daddy in a light blue pencil skirt suit in 1959.  "Marry in blue, wish your love true", she always said.).  And even though I wasn't interested in long white dresses, I tried on several to appease my sisters.  While I agreed they were perfectly pretty dresses, they just "weren't me".  As the search continued, most bridal shops would steer me to the bridesmaids dress section when I insisted on a blue dress.  I bought - and quickly returned - about a half dozen dresses.  These bridesmaids dresses just weren't special enough.  And then, I happened upon an ad for Dolly Couture in one of many wedding magazines I was reading.  The dresses really spoke to me (actually, it was more like singing).  They were beautiful, timeless, and classy - like Elvis singing "Love Me Tender".  But, do they come in light blue?  Sure they do!  From this point forward, the team at Dolly Couture made the process so painlessly simple for me.  I made one visit to an in-home boutique (Molly in San Antonio is terrific!) to make sure of my design choice, get measured, and see the assortment of light blue fabric samples, and soon after, my wedding dress was ordered.  It arrived quicker than expected, and while it did need some tailoring, the fittings and alterations were simple and inexpensive to fit the dress perfectly.  In the end, I have never felt more beautiful.  And, I received the sweetest compliment:  "I was wondering what kind of dress you'd pick, and when you came down the aisle, I said 'That's it.  That looks just like Amanda.'"

Fabulous Friday - Alison & Patrick

Friday, August 29, 2014 11:31:00 AM America/Los_Angeles

Today's Fabulous Friday Bride is Alison!  All of our brides have such unique styles and Alison is no different.  I love the "theme" - a mash up of vintage/punk/Buddist/vegan. How fun? AND they placed the Ramones?! Come on! I wish I was there, but luckily I get to live vacariously through her photos.  Enjoy!

Name: Alison & Patrick

Date: May 31, 2014 in Santa Monica, CA

Ceremony: Against the Stream Buddhist Meditation Center

Reception: Real Food Daily

Theme: We didn’t really have a theme.  More a mash-up of vintage/punk rock/Buddhist/vegan

Dress: sleeveless Beverlywood in champagne taffeta with V-back

Favorite moment: There were so many, I loved every minute of it!  One of the best: our recessional was “I believe in Miracles” by the Ramones.  As we were walking out, my husband and I spontaneously started dancing and he twirled me.  Our photographer caught the exact moment and my dress was absolutely perfect for twirling!  So much fun.

Advice: I knew that I wanted a Dolly Couture dress from moment I tried one on.  I couldn’t believe how easy it was to make a few small changes to my favorite dress and stay within my budget.  So I guess my advice would be to use your imagination!  I was also thrilled that the sizing was EXACTLY like the sizing chart posted online, so if you cannot get to one of the showrooms, you can order online with confidence :-)

Sensational Saturday

Saturday, June 21, 2014 10:43:10 AM America/Los_Angeles

Who doesn't love a good show? Today's Sensational Saturday bride is Sara and her husband Adam.  Grab a big box of corn and get ready to read the synopsis about these two lovebirds and their beautiful wedding!

Couple: Sara & Adam

Location: The Canton Palace Theater, October 16, 2011

Theme/Color/Style: "Our wedding theme was "vintage."  We  didn't have one era in particular for the theme, but we were married in The Canton Palace Theater.  Being that the theater was built in the 1920's and has been beautifully restored to its original majesty, we wanted our wedding to have a vintage/glamorous feel to match the setting. As for bridesmaids' gowns, I asked my bridal party to find their own style (since we are all shaped differently), but keep it black, vintage-style & tea length. This looked amazing against the backdrop of the red-curtained stage   My only request was that we all wear back-seam hosiery (which made for some cool/sexy photographs with my girls)."

Dress: Beverlywood

Favorite Moment: "My favorite moment from the wedding, every bride will tell you there is always more than one...We were married in one of the most beautiful and historic places in our area & we walked down the aisle to the sounds of an original Kilgen organ...however, my favorite moment had to be when we were whisked away in a fully restored 1933 Chrysler that once belonged to the William Henry Hoover family (the vacuum cleaner guy).  We were showered with popcorn (instead of the usual throwing of rice) as we made our exit from the theater, then were escorted away by the beautiful blue automobile.  My husband Adam works for the Stark Truss Corporation (another fixture in our hometown) and the founder of the company loaned us the car...it doesn't really leave the garage very often except for very special occasions.  So, we made it about five feet away from the theater before the car overheated.  We were being photographed from every angle, family and friends attempting to give us a paparazzi-style exit, yet the car had just stalled out, was sitting in the middle of traffic, and had to be push-started by 8 (or so) of our groomsmen and friends. So much for a dramatic exit! It was actually very funny and we got some great pics as a result."

Why Sara chose Dolly Couture: "I chose DC for my gown almost immediately.  Once I saw the Beverlywood, I was certain that it was THE dress.   I don't really like the typical (I call them "cupcakey") type of wedding dresses.  DC had the vintage look I always loved, and the short/tea length look I knew I wanted.  The cut was best for my curvy shape (the wrap top) and the short style made it comfy while elegant.  Most importantly, DC was budget-friendly.  The cost was about half of what I thought I might spend for the perfect dress.  Also, I am plus-sized, and the range of sizes that were available was obviously a must for me. Overall, I think my dress really made for the perfect centerpiece and completed my dream wedding."

Sara's advice for future Dolly Couture brides: "My advice for future DC brides is to take the "Douglas Adams" approach...(the author of The Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy), which is, "Don't panic."  I had been stressed for months (as every bride is) just to make sure all the details were in place.  In the end, I relied upon the love and support of my bridal party...there were little things that had gone wrong, had I known I would have had a meltdown.  My girls kept the whole day smooth and didn't let me worry about a thing.  So, relax, and don't forget to enjoy it.  The day really does go by too fast.  Embrace and laugh about the little missteps that happen, don't let it spoil the fun.  When our royal exit was spoiled I laughed about it, and it made for the best memory of the day."

Fabulous Friday - Vanessa & Shawn

Friday, August 2, 2013 4:45:07 PM America/Los_Angeles

Check out this leading lady and her dashing beau! Let's meet Vanessa & Shawn!

Couple: Vanessa & Shawn

Wedding Date: October 14, 2012

Wedding Theme: Classic Hollywood

Dress: Vanessa wore our Beverlywood.  She customized it by changing the fabric to satin instead of the standard taffeta.  She also customized the length to fit her frame better.

Favorite moment from the wedding:

"Arriving at the Graceland Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas and seeing 23 of our dearest friends and family waiting for us. Everyone said it was like stepping back in time which is exactly the look we wanted. It was truly surreal especially with a visit from the King of Rock and Roll."

What made you choose DC?

"I always knew I wanted a short wedding dress. I felt a traditional wedding dress would drown my 5 foot frame in fabric. After zero luck in Montreal stores, I decided to try online. Dolly Couture is a dream come true. At first I was hesitant about ordering online but the customer service was fantastic and I loved the idea of custom measurements. I’m so glad I did because the Beverlywood dress was perfect in every way."

Advice for future DC brides:

"I recommend ordering a sample of the fabric swatches. It really helped me chose the color and feel I liked best."

Congrats Vanessa & Shawn!
