Fabulous Friday - Eva & Ian

Friday, March 28, 2014 12:40:01 PM America/Los_Angeles

Today's Fabulous Friday bride is Eva.  We loved the location and the overall feel of the wedding.  How beautiful did she look in the Newport Beach with her handsome hubs Ian beside her?

Couple: Eva & Ian

Location: Ray's Boathouse in Seattle, WA

Theme/Design/Colors/Style: "Timeless elegance with a flirty, feminine twist.  The colors were various shades of light pink and white.  We wanted to incorporate that vintage feeling in my dress, throughout the whole wedding.  Guests were given white Ray-Ban style shades as favors, and we decorated with milk glass, pink depression glass, and mercury glass.  We tried to evoke days gone by, without it seeming like the theme was 'vintage wedding'."

Dress:  The Newport Beach with light pink ribbon accents

Favorite moment from the wedding:  "It's very hard to pick my favorite part, because it was all so magical.  That said,  I'm really close to my dad, and throughout the whole wedding process, it sort of seemed like he wasn't really sure what his role was in planning the wedding.  My favorite part of the whole day was when my dad and I had our father daughter dance to "My Girl" by The Temptations.  We laughed and boogied down, and it was just so nice to see him having such a great time!"

Why you choose Dolly Couture:  "I've always loved retro gowns and felt the style really suited me.  My prom gown was a 50's inspired dress, and long before I got engaged, or even had a boyfriend, I had picked Dolly Couture as my dream dress designer.  Getting my dress from the boutique in Tarzana was even more special, because my Nana, who couldn't come all the way to Seattle for the wedding due to health reasons, lives in Hollywood.  I flew down and visited her for a weekend and she and I went together to pick my dress.  It was a really special thing that just she and I got to do together.  It's a memory we both will cherish."

Advice for future Dolly Couture brides: "Invest in a good photographer!  We planned a wedding that was considered a "budget wedding" by today's standards.  We didn't skimp on the photographer though, and my husband and I are so glad.  Not only was our photographer (Joshua Mahar) a great help to us on the day of the wedding, (he's done this many times before, and we had not)  He delivered us images that I will treasure forever.  He captured even the smallest details, and every time I look back at the pictures, it's like I'm instantly there on my wedding day again, feeling all the happiness and love I felt that day.  Worth every penny!"

Congratulations Eva & Ian!  We wish you a lifetime of happiness!

Fabulous Friday - Samantha & Travis

Friday, February 28, 2014 4:13:51 PM America/Los_Angeles

The weather around the country is pretty drab and grey today (even in LA), so I thought I would show you a wedding with bright color palate and leave you longing for those warm summer days at the State Fair.

Today's couple is Samantha and Travis who hail from Kansas.  They decided to do a carnival themed wedding.  I just love the fabric pennants, the dessert bar and does she look amazing in her Beverlywood?

Below are some photos from the wedding, but go to Green Wedding Shoes to see the great article and more photos.   Be sure to read the full blog because Samanta gives some great advice for you future brides.

A big thanks to Green Wedding Shoes for sharing!

Fabulous Friday - Nicole & Austin

Thursday, February 13, 2014 10:50:06 AM America/Los_Angeles

Today's Fabulous Friday is a day early because I know all you love birds out there are NOT going to be reading a blog. :)

Nicole's recap gave me goosebumps! As a newlywed, I concur! Make it your own.  Make it yours. Make it unique.

Couple: Nicole and Austin

Nicole and Austin Wedding Party

Location: Grand Rapids, Michigan

Date: July 26, 2013

Theme: Bright Vintage with a heavy music/record influence

Decor

What she wore: Sweetheart Manhattan with Catalina polka dot overlay and a raspberry chiffon petticoat

Nicole Dress and Pettiocat

Favorite moment from the wedding: "I feel like it went by in a blur, and I had so many amazing moments. One that really stands out for me was our first look. I had been super anxious the whole time we were getting ready and I couldn't sit still. By the time I got to the top of the stairs to walk down to Austin, and I could see everyone in the bridal party watching me, I was shaking like a leaf. It felt like it took me forever to walk down the stairs (Austin said it sounded like I ran!) and then I just burst into tears and he just held me, and all my nerves went away. I wasn't nervous at all, it was complete anticipation about the fact that I was finally getting to marry my love! (We were together for 8 and a half years before tying the knot!)"

Girls

What made you choose Dolly Couture? "I had originally went shopping at traditional boutiques and picked a dress and wasn't too sure about it. Then I found Dolly online and found out you could customize your dress and I just knew I had to have one. Being able to make my dress EXACTLY what I wanted, and not having to compromise on anything was perfect for me, and I am so happy with my decision. I've always loved pin-up and love that I got to incorporate it into my wedding."

Any advice for future Dolly Couture brides? "DO WHAT YOU WANT! I know so many people who did something at their wedding because someone else wanted them to do it. Why? It is you and your partner's day, and you should make it a reflection of yourselves and your relationship. Every last detail of our wedding was hand-made by us, or was placed there for a specific reason. We used records as place settings. We didn't have alcohol. We didn't have religion. We played punk/metal music. We served fajitas and bottled soda. If someone didn't like it, that was their problem. My husband and I woke up the next morning and looked at each other and agreed; our wedding was perfect. Every couple should have that same feeling!"

Fabulous Friday - Maria & Mark

Friday, November 15, 2013 5:34:44 PM America/Los_Angeles

And we're back! Check out our adorable couple Maria & Mark!!!

Couple: Maria & Mark

Date & Location: May 4, 2013 in Calgary, Alberta

Wedding Theme:

"We had a very rustic & casual wedding. Most elements were DIY including my veil, the flowers, the decor, and the cake. In order for my parents (who are quite traditional) to understand our choices, the word we used was rustic. It worked like a charm. The emphasis that day was on us - not a specific theme."

Dress: Hastings on Hudson with a chiffon petticoat

Favorite Moment:

"My favourite moment of the wedding is hard to choose. It all felt like a dream. The part I go back to again and again in my mind was when we were pronounced husband and wife and a joyous Ukrainian wedding march started playing and everyone started clapping along as we hi-fived our way down the aisle. Once we were out of the room, we both started crying from happiness. That was a great feeling!"

What Made You Choose Dolly Couture:

"I chose Dolly Couture quite early in my engagement. We were engaged for 2.5 years and after only 4 months, I had already decided that I wanted to order a DC dress. I was sent to LA for a work conference and took that opportunity to visit the showroom with one of my closest friends. I tried on all the styles I liked and we took pictures. I hadn't settled on a design, but I knew that it would be one of the ones I tried that day.  We finally selected a wedding date (1.5 years later!) and I knew that the Hastings on Hudson was the dress for me. It was an easy choice. I did not set foot in another bridal salon. I did not comparison shop. I knew I was a Dolly Bride from day 1, and that made it easy!"

Any Advice for Future Dolly Couture Brides?

"My advice to other Dolly Brides would be to keep it simple, trust your instincts, and ask a ton of questions! Nikki helped me so much during the ordering process. She made suggestions for my lace and organza underlay and I was so happy with the result."

Happy Halloween

Thursday, October 31, 2013 1:14:14 PM America/Los_Angeles

Happy Halloweeen Y'all!

We have a very special bride featured today - my 10 year old red-headed stepdaughter! (Literally) She's not your typical blushing bride....she's a zombie. An undead child zombie bride. Creepy. Yes. Bizarre. Yes. Totally awesome. Absolutely yes!

When she told me she wanted to be a zombie bride, my ears perked up.  I have an okay sewing skill set - perfect for costumes that are only seen at night.  I have a wee bit of knowledge about the construction of gowns (I mean I should right? I work for a couture wedding dress company), so I thought I would give it a shot.  Her dress was very loosely based on a Verona bodice and an Avila Bay tulle skirt without the poof.

It took me about three days to complete the look, including the veil.  I was proud of my accomplishment, but as I got closer to finishing the dress I became a bit saddened at the thought of distressing my "masterpiece".  Even though I knew in my heart it was the best thing to do...distress it to take eyes away from the weirdo seams, the lopsided capped sleeve, the ill-fitting bodice. Now that would make it perfect.

It was a very rewarding experience working with her.  I took her to the fabric store.  I let her choose her own fabric and pattern.  She even picked out the zipper.  She helped every step of the way and asked questions the whole time.  I felt like Tim Gunn.  Hello designers!  But the best part was seeing her soaking up everything I was teaching her.  I didn't think she would be into sewing at all, but she totally is.  I am even signing us both up for sewing classes at the local JoAnne's. And I need it!

I love that she thinks my job is cool.  I love she is interested in fashion.  I love she wants her own sewing machine for Christmas. She even watches Project Runway with me.  It's an amazing feeling knowing that I inspired her.   And all of this over a Halloween costume.

Anyway, I digress....here are the before and after pics of my masterpiece.  After is definitely MUCH better.  And that is why I will not be personally making your dress. You're welcome.
